Henchman

Novel counterpart: I Bravi

Henchman token

Ability

There may be more than one Henchman in play. Each night*, choose a player different from last night: if they are healthy, they do not wake tonight. [+0 or +1 Henchman]

Modifies setupMay be duplicated
Questo matrimonio non s’ha da fare, né domani, né mai.

The Henchman does not need poison to silence someone. A quiet threat, a hand on the hilt, and even the boldest soul may decide that tonight is better spent doing nothing at all.

How to Run

During setup, the Storyteller may put a second Henchman token in the bag ([+0 or +1 Henchman]). The second Henchman takes one of the Minion places for that player count: the evil team does not grow.

Each night except the first, wake every Henchman very early in the night.

Each Henchman chooses a player different from the player they chose on the previous night.

Mark the chosen player with LAST CHOICE.

If that player is healthy when the Henchman's ability resolves, also mark them DO NOT WAKE and do not wake that player later that night.

If the chosen player is not healthy, nothing happens beyond recording the choice for the following night.

Remove DO NOT WAKE at the end of the night.

Examples

The Henchman chooses the healthy Doctor. The Doctor does not wake during their normal night action.

The Henchman chooses a Doctor who is already poisoned. The Henchman's effect does not apply. The Doctor still wakes normally, although their poisoned ability may malfunction.

The Henchman chooses a healthy Tailor. Later that night, the Plague poisons the Tailor. The Tailor still does not wake: the Henchman's effect was already established when the Tailor was healthy.

Two Henchmen are in play. Each may choose a different player, potentially preventing two healthy players from waking that night.

Rules & Clarifications

  • There may be multiple Henchmen in play. [+0 or +1 Henchman] is a setup modification: the Storyteller may put a second Henchman in the bag in place of another Minion.
  • On their first use, there is no previous-night restriction.
  • From then on, each Henchman must choose a player different from their own previous choice.
  • Poison does not normally prevent a player from waking. Do not wake tonight is a separate effect produced specifically by the Henchman.
  • Check whether the target is healthy when the Henchman acts. Later changes do not retroactively change whether the suppression was established.
  • The Henchman acts very early in the Other Night so that the Storyteller knows which players must not be woken later.
